Prisca, 36, has encountered tragedy after tragedy in her life when she lost her husband in 2019. When death struck the family, Prisca was left to fend for her six children despite having no source of income. Prisca comes from Losirwa village, Naiberi Kenya where agriculture remains the only source of income and food. At the time that her husband died, Prisca was left with no resources given that the only parcel of land the family-owned could only accommodate temporary shelter for the family with no land to be used for agriculture.

With the family facing starvation, Prisca sought help from the government for her children to be supported in payment of school fees and the family to be assisted with food supplies. With all requests being ignored and promises not being honored, Prisca resorted to selling illicit brew to at least get money to buy food for her children. All this was short-lived when she was sent to prison when the government finally caught her on the wrong side of the law in 2020. For six months Prisca left her children to fend for themselves an aspect that left her in agony especially her young boy who was barely three years.

Gideon Kipngetich standing next to his new home

While in prison our mission coordinating team through our monthly program of enabling families to have decent shelters got to visit the family. You see with Gideon Kipngetich being sponsored under ECAN-CRF, through his sponsor Steve and Jacky Huffman getting to know the destitute state of the family was realized when Gideon’s daily routines started changing. With his mother being in prison Gideon and his siblings depended on relatives and well-wishers for their daily meals an aspect that proved challenging when the much-needed help kept dwindling as the days went by.

With Gideon coming to school most days looking unkempt, and hungry having come without breakfast, Barnaba Serem stationed at Losirwa center took the initiative to visit the family. Meeting the deplorable state of the family of six living in a one-roomed house that was grass thatched and leaking through the rainy season, Mr. Serem made a call to the mission team to come and salvage the situation. Getting the family a functional latrine became a priority before a descent house being constructed.

Prisca all smiles with her family

When we finally visited the family on 21st February 2021, Mama Prisca could not hold her tears for the assistance that ECAN-CRF had accorded her family. All she could say was “Thank you so much CRF for bringing dignity to my family. For many years I had requested assistance from the government but you are the only people that came to my rescue.” When she finally gave her life to Christ, it was all joy and celebration in the family.
