My One Dream

Every day, we come across many people speaking about opportunities in life. For many of us, hearing the word “opportunity” immediately makes us think about career choices, securing a well-paying job, or venturing into business.

However, for a young girl like Janet Alimlim from Redeemer Christian Academy, the greatest opportunity she has always sought is to be in school. In Kenya, many children are born into poor families where affording an education is a treasure that many parents strive to provide for their kids. Unfortunately, Janet’s mother, despite her desire to keep her daughter in school, could not afford to pay the school fees.

When I asked Alimlim about her aspirations for the future, her response was the sweetest. She said, “I want to become a teacher so that I can help many people learn to read. Initially, obtaining an education was a struggle, and I am grateful to my teachers because now I can read and write. I want every child to have the opportunity to learn how to read, just like me. Today, I consider myself privileged because even though my brother completed his class eight studies, he was unable to continue his secondary education due to the high cost of education in Kenya.”

I was overjoyed when I received sponsorship from CRF (Children’s Relief Fund). I still remember the excitement on my mother’s face when she learned that someone had come to alleviate her burdens. My mother earns a modest income by washing clothes for people, which alone does not provide enough money. Today, I am in school, and I know that I will achieve my dream of becoming a teacher. I am immensely grateful to CRF and my sponsor for making it possible for me to be in school today.
